ARC Maldives - Journal Post

Island Bazaar partnered with ARC Maldives as our Island Loop initiative for the first quarter of 2026. For more details about Island Loop please go to the link on our website footer.

The journal post is part of this initiative, to shed some light on  some of the incredible works these charities do.

The blog post was prepared by ARC Maldives.

Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC)

As champions of child rights, ARC is committed to building a society where each
child’s potential is realized and celebrated, paving the way for a generation
characterized by resilience, compassion, and limitless possibilities.
What began as small, volunteer-driven efforts has grown into a movement that has
touched thousands of lives. For 16 years, ARC has been a voice for the voiceless
and a helping hand to children in need across the Maldives.

In 2009, we launched our first campaigns, HOPE, focused on preventing child abuse
and Shelter Support improving the lives of children under state care. Today, we lead
11 campaigns that have touched countless lives, from GRACE empowering girls, to
HEAL supporting health and nutrition, RESPECT promoting social values, REACH
enhancing literacy, Safety Steps building essential safety skills and BELIEVE
advocating for children with disabilities.

When the world paused, we did not. During the pandemic, we came together for our
most vulnerable children. The ARC AID Campaign provided essential food supplies
to families in need, while our Mind Matters Campaign offered support to children
facing mental health challenges. These efforts were born from the belief that even in
the hardest times, our children should always come first.

Children are the most affected by the growing climate crisis, and it is our
responsibility to stand beside them. With the Climate Warriors Campaign, we
empower the next generation to take action, raise awareness, and become
advocates for the environment. Together, we are building a future where children are
not just survivors, but leaders.

Through these campaigns we have reached over 46,500 children across every atoll
in the Maldives. Our mission has always been clear; no child should be left behind.
Whether it’s through school programs, parent and teacher engagement or support
for communities, every effort brings us closer for a better future for children.

From developing the country’s first Child Safeguarding Policy for children in sports,
to the launching of child-friendly versions of the Convention on the Rights of the
Child, the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and the Convention on the Elimination
of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, we strive to create a future where
every child’s rights are respected, honoured, and protected.

We also celebrate the passing of two laws: the Child Rights Protection Act and the
Juvenile Justice Act, marking a significant step forward in the protection of children’s
rights in the Maldives. These milestones hold special meaning for us, as many of
ARC’s recommendations were woven into these laws, guided by the voices of
children who shared their hopes and concerns. While we are proud of these
accomplishments, we know that the real journey is just beginning, as we remain
committed to supporting their implementation.

The world continues to change, and with-it new challenges for children arise. As we
face emerging issues, the urgency to protect, support, and empower children has
never been greater. ARC is dedicated to giving every child the opportunity to live a
life full of hope and promise.

Our work would not be possible without the dedication of our staff, volunteers,
partners, corporate ambassadors, donors and supporters of our cause. Thank you
for being part of our journey to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children
across the Maldives.
